The Book Courtship Tag

One of my resolutions for this year was posting frequently, but I guess I failed at that 😉 It’s been almost two weeks since I posted?! Reading hasn’t been too great either; I finished The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima and I am currently reading Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas and loving it.

Initial Attraction

A book that you bought because of the cover

I’ve added this book recently on my TBR. I admit it was mostly because of the cover, but I do plan on reading it because the premise of the book sounds so intriguing. Time travel books always confuse me but I’ll give this one a try.

First Impressions

A  book that you got because of the summary

An alien apocalypse. Doesn’t that sound like the most interesting book ever? The movie came out yesterday, January 15, so that is even more motivation to read it! The second book, The Infinite Sea, is even better.

Sweet Talk

A book with great writing?

All the Bright Places

Not necessarily great writing, but I like the writing style and it fit in well with the book. There are so many beautiful phrases:

“I know life well enough to know you can’t count on things staying around or standing still, no matter how much you want them to. You can’t stop people from dying. You can’t stop them from going away. You can’t stop yourself from going away either. I know myself well enough to know that no one else can keep you awake or keep you from sleeping.”

First Date

A first book of a series which made you want to pick up the rest of the series?

An Ember in the Ashes (An Ember in the Ashes, #1)

“It totally lived up to the hype. It was so unpredictable and I kept catching my breath, not wanting to know what horrors awaited, but I couldn’t not turn the pages. I flew through the book—it was captivating.” My feels have been laid out in this review.

Late Night Phone Calls

A book that kept you up all night?

The Wrath and the Dawn (The Wrath and the Dawn, #1)

It might be because I read this during a readathon and I wanted to read it fast, but this book is really amazing. The characters are the best part and even though the story is a retelling of the Arabian Nights, it has a nice plot twist and a strong story line that I enjoyed. Plus, Shazi is unbelievably clever and snarky.

Always on my mind

A book you could not stop thinking about?

If you’ve read my review of this book, you know that I went totally crazy about it. I loved every single part of this book and I might even start learning programming just because this book is so freaking COOL!

Getting Physical

A book which you love the way it feels?

I don’t own many books, but the hardcover of Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella feels really smooth and nice. The letters are beautifully embossed and it is such a vibrant colour! And the two coffee cups on the back are so cute 🙂

Meeting the parents

A book which you would recommend to your family and friends?

I would recommend all the books on this page, but mostly Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski. It is a brilliantly written book that covers many themes like politics and manipulation that I think everyone should be aware of.

Thinking about the future

A book or series you know you will re read many times in the future?

I would have liked to say Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff for this one too. I love the Throne of Glass books so far too and people have so many great things to say about them. Also, The Infernal Devices.

Share the love

I wasn’t tagged by anyone to do this but I’d love to tag some people. If you have already done this tag, you can ignore this but go ahead if you’d like to 🙂

Okay, okay, I agree. This was a lousy post and most of my answers feel like I wrote them in my sleep. Is this a blogging slump? I hope not. But anyways, I promise I’m not abandoning you guys 🙂

Fall Time Cozy Book Tag

The best part of fall? Lattes, chilly morning, rustling leaves, pumpkins.. and hoodies! I’m a practical sort of person and let’s be honest, I wear yoga pants/sweats and hoodies most of the time, so you bet I’m wearing one now. And sipping hot chocolate because I couldn’t be bothered to head out for a latte 🙂

Thanks to Charley @ Booksandbakes1 for tagging me! She has an awesome blog 🙂

Crunching Leaves: The world is full of color – choose a book that had reds/oranges/yellows
on the cover

This book is everywhere! The hype! It sounds like a journal or collection of stories like a file? Anyways, so so cool. I’m definitely reading it as soon as I get the hold from my library.

Cozy Sweater – It’s finally cold enough to don warm cozy clothing: what book gives you the
warm fuzzies?

I am so predictable, I know, I know. But seriously, Etienne St Clair makes me have mini heart attacks. He is just so.. not sweet, but lovable? Um, hot? Why is that only now I realize that I can’t really describe him?

Fall Storm: The wind is howling & the rain is pounding – choose your favorite book OR
genre that you like to read on a stormy day

Again, predictable. But I haven’t read this for a long time: 4 years. And if I do reread it, it will be my first time rereading it. This one just seems like a fall/winter series.

Cool Crisp Air: What’s the coolest character you’d want to trade places with?

Percy Jackson. Can I just be him? Or better yet, can I be his friend? That would be the second most coolest thing, right next to me having to never get out of the comfy clothes that I’m wearing right now. We’d surf the waters, swim and have fun together and life would be awesome. Percy and Parneet, oh look it even sounds good!

Hot Apple Cider: What under hyped book do you want to see become the next biggest,
hottest thing?

This is a pretty well-known book, but I think it’s really great and everyone who enjoys YA should give it a try. I believe I gave it a 5 stars and I don’t know why I haven’t read Winner’s Crime yet, but this book was so good! (Can you tell that I’m running out of adjectives?)

Coat, Scarves, and Mittens – The weather has turned cold & it’s time to cover up – What’s
the most embarrassing book cover you own that you like to keep hidden in public?

I don’t own this one and I don’t want to. When I read the first book, it was okay. Not great, but bearable. But after the second book, it got so hard to even get through it. What are these books? I’d die of embarrassment and shame if someone ever saw me holding it, but I wouldn’t do it in the first place.

Pumpkin Spice: What’s your favorite fall time comforts food/foods?

I had this a couple of days ago, so no, I wouldn’t have again this season, but it was still great. A bit too sweet for my taste—I would have preferred a bit spiced—but worth having nonetheless!

Now usually I’d just say I tag everyone, but this time, I tag everyone who loves the fall season. It could be anything about it, spiced pumpkin lattes or fuzzy socks 😀

Oh this was a short, sweet post! I’m currently writing a series review for the Grisha trilogy so you can expect that post to be up sometime soon 🙂 Anyways, have a great day!

Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

It’s definitely not the middle of the year anymore. We’re way past that, but I figured I couldn’t do it around the end of the year either, and this was the only close-to-decent time to do this tag. I’ve read 45 books this year up until now, so I don’t have a lot of options for the categories below 🙂

Thanks to Calliope the Book Goddess for tagging me to do this! You should check out her blog—it’s awesome!

Best book you’ve read so far in 2015

Such a hard question. So it’s a tie between the two most hyped books of the year, of course. My reviews are linked here and here, respectively.

Best Sequel You’ve Read in 2015

The whole trilogy was so good I devoured it. And Raffe just adds to the charm of it all.

New Release that You Haven’t Read Yet But Want to

So I need to read basically every thing Sarah J. Maas has written. You don’t want to know how many times it’s been recommended.

Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year

Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4)

I’m currently almost done with Cress, and I can’t wait for the last book in the series! This book’s set to come out on November 12th, and that’s only a month away, but it seems so long 😦 But fear not bookworms, together we will overcome this.

Biggest Disappointment

Miss Mayhem (Rebel Belle, #2)

I loved Rebel Belle, but this book just fell short. Literally, too, because I believe there were a few less pages than the first. I probably will still read the next book, just out of pure curiosity, but it definitely will not be a priority.

Biggest Surprise

I didn’t expect a fairytale retelling series to be as good as this is. Meyer adds so much more depth and life to her characters and entwines them in such an intricate way, it’s absolutely amazing. The storylines are really complicated too, in a good way.

Favorite New Author

Maybe it isn’t fair to come to this conclusion with only having read one of her books, but this book really makes me want to devour all the YA fantasy books in the world. I used to read mostly contemporary, but now I’ve changed my preferences 🙂

New Fictional Crush

The Selection by Kiera Cass

I don’t want to mention all the books again and again, so I pick Prince Maxon from The Selection. He’s a really sweet, naive guy who although gets hurt easily, is also strong and a good leader. I don’t know what America thinks she’s doing, but she must be blind to even thinking of picking Aspen over cute Maxon!

Newest Favorite Character

Shazi from The Wrath and the Dawn is just so determined, witty and sassy. She’s like my bookish idol, along with a few other female protagonists. I want to be more like her, giving quick witty answers to even the most complicated questions.

Book That Made You Cry

All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven didn’t make me cry, exactly, but I came pretty close. It was a beautiful book, but the end.. I’m going to stick to fantasy books now, at least they don’t make my heart crunch.

Book That Made You Happy

It was so cute! Lara Jean and Peter had the sweetest moments together and it’s a great mood booster 🙂

Favorite Book to Film Adaptation You Saw This Year

Jurassic Park is a novel. So therefore I reason that Jurassic World, the third sequel to the movie, is also a book-to-movie adaptation. It’s my favourite movie of the year too, so bonus points! And Chris Pratt. That should be all you need to know.

Favorite Book Review You’ve Written

Yeah, it’s An Ember in the Ashes again. What can I say? There were a lot of feels, okay?

Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year (Or Received)

I received Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine as an ARC thanks to Penguin Random House. The cover is really interesting and it looks like an old volume!

What Books I Need to Read by the End of the Year

There are so, so many. More than I can actually read in a couple of months, but I’ll try to read as many as I can 🙂

The Summer Reader Tag

I never thought I’d become this busy with school, but as it turns out, I’ve had no time to blog since school started even though I didn’t do my homework and it’s still pending! I’ve just been more tired recently and not able to do much, but now it’s Saturday! Let’s switch the radio on (Bad Blood is playing) and get on with the last of summer days tag. It’s around 25 degrees celsius here and fall is FAST approaching, so it’s a fit time to do this 🙂 Analee @BookSnacks tagged me to do this tag, and so here I am!

1. Lemonade: pick a book that started off bitter but got better

Eragon started out okay, but got much better by the middle, and then dropped down in the end. The plot was really good, and the writing appealed to me, but I need to read it again and see if I like it or not because not a lot comes to mind when I look at this book now.

2. Golden sun: pick a book that made you smile beyond compare

Etienne is number two on my book boyfriend list (second to only the one and only Will Herondale) and it’s no surprise that I’ve picked this book. It made me smile, giggle so hard that I snorted, chuckle.. you get it. It made my cheeks hurt. If you haven’t read it, then I suggest joining Anna Banana and her beautiful friend, Monsieur Etienne St.Clair on a beautiful journey to beautiful Paris right now.

3. Tropical flowers: pick a book set in a different country

These books are set in India and based a lot on Indian mythology and culture. I really like how a lot of the traditions and culture is incorporated into these books and Ren is such a sweetie! If you haven’t read this, you should!

4. Tree shade: pick a book in which a mysterious or shady character was first introduced

I’m going to go with Analee’s choice for this one—the Darkling. At first, I didn’t find him very shady, and thought the Apparat was more mysterious. but as the story progressed, I began to have doubts about him.

5. Beach sand: pick a book that was grainy, and the plot barely developed

The plot might have developed some, but this book was overall just bland and didn’t have much going on. I tried to like it, but it was a fail for me.

6. Green grass: pick a character(s) that was/were full of life

The characters of this book were the best, and they really made the book a favourite. The four guys in the band—JJ, Oliver, Alec and Xander were so alive and fun all the time and reading it made me so happy, like I was living the moments too, with them.

7. Watermelon: pick a book that had some juicy secrets

I can’t say ‘secrets’ were spilled in these books, but there was a lot of confusion and a lot of moments where I went ‘oh, I see!”. These books require some thinking on your part and that’s what I like about them, along with the futuristic alien-apocalypse thing that’s going on here.

8. Sun hat: pick a book that had a vast, big universe/setting

This is a fantasy book set in mainly the kingdom of Winter, but it takes place in a country(?) or land called Primoria and there are four Season kingdoms: Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn, and four Rhythm kingdoms: Yakim, Cordell, Ventralli and Paisly. Throw in some plains and mountains and you’ve got an enormous land.

9. BBQ: pick a book in which a character was portrayed as a hunk

Raffe is a girl’s dream come true. He’s lean, got awesome abs and he’s an angel. And Penryn’s all over him, if you can’t tell by this:

“He leans down, and his lips hover a hair’s breadth from mine. I close my eyes, feeling the tingle of anticipation.
Then he presses his lips to mine. His warmth spreads out from my lips down into my chest and stomach. Time stops, and   I forget about everything else – the apocalypse, my enemies, watching eyes, monsters in the night.
All I feel is the kiss.
All I am is Raffe’s girl.”

10. Summer fun: pass the tag on

Yes! Probably my favourite part of this tag 🙂

The Reading Habits Tag

The first week of September is almost finished! I’m just sitting here shaking my head in amazement—time flies by so fast! I recently found this TBR calculator here that calculates how long it will take for you to read all of your TBR pile (that is, assuming you don’t add more books) and according to it, it will take me 6 years to read the books on my current TBR.

Anyways, I’m here today with this reading tag because rabbitearsblog tagged me to do it. You should go check out the blog, it really amazing and has great content! So let’s get on with the questions then 🙂

Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

I read in my room, but on sunny days I also read outside on my patio to take the full benefits of the the warm sun on back and the vitamin D coursing through my skin… you understand.

Bookmark or random piece of paper?

I have loads of bookmarks (like 15, not a lot) and so I try to make use of them. I do use random pieces of paper a lot too, but it doesn’t give the same feel as a proper bookmark, you know?

Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages?

I prefer it if I’m able to stop after the chapter ends, but sometimes I have to stop between paragraphs. I really like to set a goal before reading, like 100 pages or so, because I know I won’t be able to finish the book without

Do you eat or drink while reading?

I don’t like my books to be ruined with the food or drink, but I can’t help myself. Reading makes me hungry, especially if the characters are having breakfast or eating scrumptious dishes! I like to connect with the characters on a whole new level 😛

Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?

Not TV, but sometimes I put instrumental music on low volume while I’m reading. At the end of the book, I also choose a song that I think goes along well with the book, like I chose Drag Me Down by One Direction for An Ember in the Ashes.

One book at a time or several at once?

I’m notorious for reading several books at once. Recently, in the readathons that I particpated in, I did read one book at a time, but most of the time I read many books together. I can’t decide which one to read first!

Reading at home or everywhere?

I read at home for the most part, but sometimes I take my iPad along to read some ebooks on the way to somewhere.

Reading out loud or silently in your head?

Silently in my head, mostly. I do read aloud sometimes when I need to imagine the character’s accent or way of speaking.

Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

You’ve caught me here. I don’t really skip pages, but sometimes my eyes can travel to the later chapters in the book, and I get spoiled. Yes, I’m very ashamed of this, I’m really trying to improve.

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

Keeping it like new, definitely. I would never break the spine! *mimics horror face*

Do you write in your books?

No. I don’t like any marks, stains or writing on my books and like to keep them as pristine as possible.

And now I tag…

Aentee @Read at Midnight
Aria @Aria Stuck in Wonderland
Dee @The Bookish Khaleesi
Jessica @My Fantasy Escape
Prima @Panda Hearts Books
Sara @Freadom Library

Hopefully you guys learned a bit more about me and my reading habits 🙂 I really want to tag everyone who has not does this to do the tag because it’s really fun and a way for your followers and readers to know more about you! If you haven’t done it, I tag youSeriously, you can say I tagged you. It’s official.

The Emoji Book Tag

You know when you feel more than just one emotion? It’s not just happiness or excitement, or sorrow. It’s like when you cry but they are actually tears of joy, and soon a smile shines through them. I’m a bit like that (minus the tears of joy part) and I don’t know how I’m supposed to go about doing this tag because it’s so hard to just associate one emoji with a book! But we’ll see, because I’ve been tagged by Syc @ The Lit Mermaid and Raven @ Dreamy Addictions. They have amazing blogs and are probably more in control of their emojis. (Haha, see what I did there?)

So I think I’m supposed to be showing my most used emojis and choosing a book that I think goes with it. Not too hard, right? I hope so 😉

I’m-so-in-loooove emoji: A book/character that I just fell in love with

Will Herondale should be the person all guys look up to, you know? Like, I wouldn’t mind it if I had a few Will Herondales in my life 😉 Sassy, witty, sarcastic, arrogant, caring—even a dictionary full of the best adjectives would fall short in front of this Shadowhunter.

Disappointed Face

Sad-faced emoji: A book that disappointed me and I wasn’t too happy with

I’ve heard so many good things about Gayle Forman’s books but this one really disappointed me. It was mostly boring and I didn’t really care for the main characters. I did, however, like the writing a bit so I gave it a 3 stars.

Smiling-so-hard-my-cheeks-hurt emoji: A book that made me smile/laugh

This book was so funny! I kept on smiling and laughing throughout the whole book, I’m sure. And the shouting parts were ACTUALLY CAPITALIZED LIKE THIS!! Of course, with countless exclamation marks and I loved Linus 🙂

Crying-my-heart-out emoji: A book that made me cry rivers and made me so emojinal

Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson

If you’ve read the book or my review, then you understand why I cried. It was a good book and while it wasn’t awesomely beautiful, the ending was.

I’m-fangirling-so-hard-right-now-ahhh emoji: A book that unleashed ALL the feels and made me feel all goeey inside

Because what else were you expecting? All I need is some Etienne, and I’m good for life 😀

This was a really fun tag and it made me so emojinal I want to read some Stephanie Perkins now. (God, I can’t get enough of these puns!)

Summertime Madness Book Tag

Summer is almost over, and I feel like it’s slipping away. Granted, there is still about a month left before I go to school again, and the weather is still very warm. But somehow it’s just not summer without frequent trips to the beach. And I’ve not had the chance to go to the seaside (it’s about 20 mins away!) because my parents have been quite busy lately. So, obviously, when Analee from BookSnacks (thank you!) tagged me to do this, I couldn’t help it. Maybe doing this tag might revive the feeling of warm days?

1. Show a book with a summery cover.

Love, Lucas by Chantele Sedgwick

Love, Lucas

Why, you ask? Because she’s sitting on a beach! The book takes place near the beach around summer. Also, it’s not just about romance and summer flings by the shore. Oakley has just lost her brother and she’s still trying to grasp that reality.

2. Pick a fictional place that you would like to go to for summer vacation.

Okay, so this isn’t technically “fictional”. It is set in our world, but in a small town set next to a lake by the Pocono Mountains. The whole book just made me long to jump into it and live in the little town with a small population. I think there’s a real beach somewhere in there too 🙂

3. You’re going on a summer vacation! Which novella do you pick to last you through the flight?

Novella? I don’t know about that, but this is a collection of eleven short stories from my favourite, the Shadowhunter world. I’m pretty sure a few extra moments with Magnus Bane and his friends would be lovely.

4. You have a case of ‘le summertime sadness’. What book do you pick up to brighten up your mood?

The Distance Between Us

I haven’t yet read this, but I can assume by the cover and the reviews that the main character is funny and sarcastic and it’s set in summer. Also, the cover is pretty!

5. You’re sitting on the beach alone. Which book character would be your beach babe?

I may have book crushes on other guys from books, but deep down, it’s always been Will Herondale. I just can’t praise him enough. He’s the best ❤

6. To match your ice-cream, who do you want to be your icy cool sidekick?

I just recently read this book, and Jalal is just the best sidekick. He’s always laughing and teasing and doesn’t panic in tough situations. He’s really sweet and kind-hearted and just lovely.

It was really fun doing this tag, and I hope your summer is going great! If you’re up to it, you should do this tag 🙂
